These testimonies all come from his contemporaries. They reveal an impressive professional portfolio and provide insights into the personality of the magician and astrologer, healer and natural scientist \u2013 and of course into the era of his life: the <strong>Renaissance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-stock\">1st floor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faustmuseum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/faustmusem_OG1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8246\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Faust\u2018s spectacular death in Staufen im Breisgau, likely caused by an <strong>explosion<\/strong> during an alchemical experiment, triggered the development of <strong>legends<\/strong> about a <strong>devil<strong>\u2019<\/strong>s pact<\/strong>.<br>What were the alchemists actually aiming at in their research and experiments? Who worked in a Renaissance laboratory and what instruments, ingredients and financial resources were needed? All this can be explored in our newly installed <a href=\"https:\/\/faustmuseum.de\/en\/faust-museum\/visit-our-virtual-alchemy-laboratory\/\">Renaissance alchemy laboratory<\/a> on the first floor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The special exhibition <em>Alchemy \u2013 Science or Devil\u2019s Pact?<\/em> presents one of the most important alchemical works of the 17th century: <em>Atalanta Fugiens<\/em> by author Michael Maier conveys basic chemical principles and processes via texts, allegorical images and music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faustmuseum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/faustmusem_OG1-2a.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8247\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faustmuseum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/faustmusem_OG1-2b.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8248\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The centrepiece of the exhibition is Doctor Faust\u2018s <strong>poison cabinet<\/strong>. This unique specimen, which was found in Faust\u2019s birthplace, proves that the residents living there were interested in alchemy. The examination of the cabinet is currently being conducted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The transition from history to legend, which is indicated by the appearance of the <strong>Mephistopheles<\/strong> figure, takes place in fantastic stories. Those were written by the people of the 16th century who were inspired by Faust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first literary expression is found in the so-called folk book, the <em>Historia of D. Johann Fausten<\/em> from 1587. The first arrangement as a drama in five acts, <em>The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus<\/em>, was penned by the English Renaissance writer Christopher Marlowe (1564-1593).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The further literary development can be followed on the vividly designed first floor, from the puppet show of Doctor Faustus to Lessing and his Faust fragment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-stock\">2nd floor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faustmuseum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/faustmusem_OG2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8249\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A separate room is dedicated to <strong>Goethe\u2019s Faust adaptations<\/strong>, where visitors can literally immerse themselves in the text. In the large room next door, the visualised world of Goethe\u2019s Faust is presented: A <strong>flood of images<\/strong> with works from the collections of the Faust Archive, sculptures and a stage model of the legendary Peter Stein production from 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soon after Goethe\u2019s first published Faust version, the <em>Fragment<\/em> (1790), the Romantic period produced its own Faust adaptations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How the Faust material expanded on its way to modernity, especially after Goethe\u2019s <em>Faust II<\/em> (1832), and how it appropriated all media, can be experienced with (almost) all senses via interactive elements, take-home texts, audio stations as well as a music lounge and a small cinema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faustmuseum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/faustmusem_OG2-2a.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8254\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faustmuseum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/faustmusem_OG2-2b.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8255\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Exhibition Floors In The Faust Museum Knittlingen\u2019s Faust Museum is dedicated to documenting the Faust myth on three different exhibition floors.
